Local artist Ibrahim Mayanja, commonly known as Big Eye, has announced his intention to run for the Nansana Municipality parliamentary seat in 2026.

"The voice of the people is the voice of God. When my president Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) speaks, it is a command. Nansana Municipality your dedicated servant for the 2026-2031 term is here.

Together we will build a stronger future," Big Eye stated on X (formerly Twitter).

He also extended his best wishes to his fellow candidates to be, hoping for a fair and spirited competition.

Currently, Nansana Municipality is represented by Hannington Wakayima, who won the 2021 election under the NUP ticket.

It remains uncertain whether Big Eye will secure the NUP nomination over Wakayima, who is rumoured to be planning to run for re-election in 2026 on the same platform.

Big Eye, 35, joined NUP in 2020 after a fallout with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), which he accused of failing to pay him Shs270 million for his performances during the 2011 national campaign.

Previously, he was a vocal supporter of the NRM and performed at numerous events for party chairman and President Museveni.

However, in 2020, he publicly criticized the party for exploiting him and withholding payment for his contributions.

"The President has my money and he has refused to give it to me, now I am sick, my son is also sick, God please help,” the singer lamented.

Big Eye hopes to follow in the footsteps of other musicians, such as Hillary Kiyaga (Dr. Hilderman) and Geoffrey Lutaya, who have successfully leveraged their influence to enter Parliament.
