Man Arrested with Illegal Firearm in Moroto

Security forces have recovered an SMG rifle (registration number T5112) with 11 rounds of ammunition during an intelligence-led operation in Lokitelakapeth village, Lotisan Sub-County.

The recovery followed the arrest of Chelamong Arupe, who was identified as the owner of the firearm. During interrogation, Arupe cooperated with authorities, leading them to the hidden weapon.

“This successful operation highlights the effectiveness of intelligence and community cooperation in combating illegal firearms,” said IP Mike Longole, Karamoja Police Spokesperson.

Arupe remains in custody as investigations continue.
