Gen Muhoozi's X Account 'Missing in Action'
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba

A rollercoaster day in which General Muhoozi Kainerugaba called MPs 'clowns' and 'fools', condemned Dr Kizza Besigye to die on Heroes Day, and Bobi Wine to be beheaded ends with the CDF's account on X 'missing in action'

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba's account on microblogging site, X, has been taken down.

The account, @mkainerugaba, went blank at about 9pm local time. When searched, it returns a blank page with the message, "This account doesn’t exist, try searching for another", the only one that welcomes a user.

Chief of Defence Forces Muhoozi had only reactivated his account on Thursday, six days after he took it down "under the instructions and blessings of my Lord Jesus Christ to leave and concentrate on His army, the UPDF".

It is difficult to tell if he has deactivated it again or whether X has taken it down for potential breach of policies such as those against violent threats.

However, Gen Muhoozi's confidante Balaam Barugahara has cited "malicious actions" for the account missing in action (in military speak, when an account of a member of armed forces cannot be traced or confirmed as either alive or dead - Editor's emphasis).

"Our favourite X account faces a suspected hijack by haters," Balaam, a minister for youth and children's affairs and a member of Muhoozi's Patriotic League Uganda, said.

"But their malicious actions won't dampen our love and determination to stand by him forever . Our loyalty and admiration for Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba remain unwavering. We love Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba for life."

You can tell if your X account has been removed if you see a message that says an account has been suspended, deactivated, or permanently removed.

However, when Muhoozi was stepping back from social media on January 10, he did alert his then 1 million followers. But this time round there was no such notice.

Gen Muhoozi spent the better part of Thursday and Friday in a rollercoaster posting episode in which he might have breached several user policies.

At the dawn of Friday, he condemned Opposition figure Kizza Besigye to death and announced his father's former personal doctor would be executed on Heroes Day - June 9.

The brazen post left the nation aghast. He had previously stepped threatened violence on Opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, better known as Bobi Wine.

On Friday, Parliament deferred a budget review meeting with the Ministry of Defence and UPDF representative, demanding that Muhoozi appear before MPs to explain his controversial behaviour on X.

“How can we allow such reckless statements from a man who holds the highest military office in Uganda?” said Makindye East MP Derrick Nyeko during a heated debate in the committee.

But Muhoozi chose to respond where he does best.

"I will never appear before parliamentary clowns," the 'Tweeting General' fired back on X. "Instead, I will arrest them all."

He said his first action after arresting all the "fools in Parliament" will be to invite them for a discussion.

"If anyone even coughs in a wrong way I will arrest him or her on the spot," he added.

Posting on social media in response to the derogatory framing of Parliament and MPs as well as threats to arrest them all, MP Nyeko warned that the First Son was not above the law and must be held accountable for his social media utterances.

"Article 208 clearly states that the UPDF will be under civilian authority. Your presence is mandatory before us," Nyeko said.

"This is not a lawless jungle; this is a public office, and you will be held responsible for your actions."

However, Gen Muhoozi, only became more animated with his keyboard, warning of beheadings and bringing forward the date he declared for execution of Dr Besigye - who is facing treachery charges in the military court.

"After we kill Besigye, it will be the turn of some MPs. Their necks have grown too fat from stealing money from us. We will hang them!" he said.

"As for the beheading of Kabobi [Bobi Wine], it's still on. When he disappears one of these days, don't ask me a lot of questions."

The derisive series of posts could have shamed even Balaam and many in government must have looked away.

But suddenly, it has all gone blank.

Contacting X is almost impossible, with the only platform for communicating with them is via their support centre but there is no direct messaging or email or phone lines to reach them.
