The leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has urged Kenyans to firmly protect their constitution before it becomes too late.
His remarks came in response to reports of the abduction of Gideon Kibet (also known as Kibet Bull), a university student, social media influencer, and cartoonist whose work has been critical of Kenyan President William Ruto.
On Saturday, Kyagulanyi expressed his alarm over Kenya's decline from being seen as a beacon of hope in the East African region to a country now "associated" with the abduction of young citizens who are critical of the government.
The NUP leader called on Kenyans to resist all forms of oppression.
"I sympathise with you, wandungu, the great people of Kenya. Like I warned you previously, you must resist Musevenism, which is slowly but firmly taking a grip on your country," he stated.
In the past, Kyagulanyi has on multiple occasions voiced concerns about the abduction of his NUP supporters, which he attributes to the Ugandan government.
On Saturday, he called on the Kenyan public to stand up for constitutionalism and eliminate repression while it is still in its early stages, before it becomes too entrenched.
"Therefore, to you Kenyan friends, you must defend your Constitution before it is too weak to defend you. If you do not uproot repression when it is a seedling, it becomes much harder when it takes root, grows into a tree, and spreads its branches everywhere." he said.
This week, Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah claimed that Kibet was abducted by Kenya's Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) after leaving his office on December 24, 2024.
He mentioned that he noticed Subaru vehicles parked outside his office on that date while he was meeting with Kibet.
However, the DCI has refuted the abduction claims, asserting that the vehicle in question is not affiliated with them and that the allegations are baseless.
"The Inspector General (IG) has clearly stated that all police operations are conducted within the confines of the Constitution and established legal frameworks. The DCI supports this stance and reassures the public that no extrajudicial actions will be tolerated within our ranks," said the DCI.
On Tuesday, the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) reported seven cases of abduction in December 2024.
The rise in abductions in Kenya has raised alarms among human rights activists and members of the opposition.
