FDC Pays Tribute to Dr. Frank Nabwiso: A Founding Pillar of the Party

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has eulogised the late Dr. Frank Nabwiso, their former Chairperson of the Elders Committee, as a patriot, peace advocate, and one of the party’s founding members.
During a special sitting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) at Najjanankumbi, FDC leaders and members reflected on Dr. Nabwiso’s immense contributions to Uganda’s politics, education, and environmental conservation.

Party President Patrick Oboi Amuriat (POA) highlighted Dr. Nabwiso’s instrumental role in the formation of FDC on December 16, 2004, a decision made alongside Reform Agenda members, including Dr. Kizza Besigye.
Amuriat described him as a loving and caring leader who profoundly influenced democracy and reconciliation efforts within the party.
He also acknowledged Nabwiso’s representation of Kagoma County in the 7th Parliament, where he championed environmental conservation and opposed the giveaway of Butamira Forest for sugarcane growing.
General Secretary Nandala Mafabi recounted Dr. Nabwiso’s foresight in scrutinising government policies, including his critical review of President Museveni’s 50-year development plan.
Mafabi also praised his commitment to training FDC staff and media professionals, a dedication that ensured the party’s institutional stability.
NEC members noted Dr. Nabwiso’s scholarly contributions, including his work on the FDC history book, which solidified his legacy as a documentarian of Uganda’s political evolution.
Robert Centenary described him as a reconciliatory who tirelessly advocated for peace, unity, and reconciliation within the party.
Dr. Nabwiso’s legacy, according to the FDC, is a reminder to redouble efforts toward democracy and justice. Boniface Bamwenda, a party elder, emphasised that the journey for change must continue despite the loss of such a pivotal figure. Robinson Kasozi called upon party members to uphold Dr. Nabwiso’s vision of unity and integrity, even amidst internal party challenges.
Dr. Nabwiso, an alumnus of Busoga College Mwiri and former Vice-Chancellor of Busoga University, was remembered as a distinguished academic, environmentalist, and advocate for marginalised communities.
His steadfast leadership in the Elders Committee helped the party navigate turbulent times, cementing his reputation as a pillar of stability and wisdom.
The FDC resolved to stand with Dr. Nabwiso’s family and ensure his legacy endures in the party’s mission to create a better Uganda. His passing is not only a loss to the FDC but also to the nation he served with distinction.
