Kasese Gears Up for Thanksgiving

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has criticized tomorrow's thanksgiving ceremony in Kasese District, dismissing it as a ploy to extract financial support from President Museveni, who is expected to preside over the event.

The ceremony will celebrate recent ministerial appointments and other developments in the district.

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) views the occasion as an opportunity to consolidate support in a region traditionally dominated by the opposition.

President Museveni’s visit is centered around the appointments of Kabyanga Godfrey Baluku as Minister of State for National Guidance and Mbadi Wilson as Minister of State for Trade.

According to Michac Kawamara, Senior Presidential Advisor for Mobilisation, the event aims to rally local support for the NRM and underscore government initiatives in the area.

FDC's Kasese District Chairperson, Ronald Kabuku, voiced doubts about the event's true motives, suggesting it is politically motivated.

NRM officials, however, defended the gathering, framing it as a step towards unity and development.

They argue it is part of a broader strategy to strengthen ties with the district and highlight the government’s dedication to its progress.

Reactions among Kasese residents remain mixed. While some welcome the focus on their leaders' achievements, others view the event as a partisan effort to sway opposition sympathies.
