Wazalendo Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (WSACCO) recently hosted 400 Junior Non-Commissioned Officers (JNCOs) for a study tour at its headquarters in Kiwatule, focusing on enhancing their financial literacy and investment skills.

The JNCOs, who are currently undertaking a four-month leadership course at Hima Training School in Kasese District, gained practical insights into financial management and strategic investment during the tour.

Lt Col Wesley Aine, WSACCO’s Head of Human Resource and Administration, represented CEO Col Joseph Freddy Onata at the event. In his address, Lt Col Aine emphasised WSACCO’s commitment to empowering members financially, underscoring the cooperative’s mission to grow its membership, deliver quality financial services, and improve members’ lives during and after their service.

Lt Col Frank Kaweru, Commandant of Hima Training School, expressed confidence that the visit would equip the JNCOs with valuable skills in enterprise selection and effective loan management.

“I believe this study tour will enhance your understanding of making sound financial decisions to improve your welfare and support Wazalendo’s mission,” he stated.

Maj Julius Niragire, WSACCO’s Head of Operations, highlighted the cooperative’s impressive growth trajectory. As of October 31, 2024, WSACCO’s membership had surpassed 112,106, with substantial contributions in share capital, deposits, assets, and loan portfolios.

He encouraged members to adopt regular saving habits and to use loans prudently to maintain this growth momentum.

Maj David Mbire, Head of Operations at Wazalendo Investments Limited (WIL), provided insights into WIL’s investment ventures in real estate and agriculture, emphasising that profits from these projects would not only yield dividends but also create affordable housing opportunities for members.

The event saw attendance from senior and junior officers, along with other officials, underscoring WSACCO’s dedication to fostering financial empowerment within its ranks.
