President Yoweri Museveni has ordered Kampala Capital City Executive Director Jennifer Musisi to ensure there is no more dust and mud in Uganda’s capital.
City traders, motorists and pedestrians on many occasions face a rough time having to maneuver through the dusty and muddy Kampala roads during the dry and rainy seasons respectively.
Speaking at a function to graduate over 4000 students under the Presidential Initiative on skilling the girl child at Kololo ceremonial grounds, Museveni said it is embarrassing to see dust and mud in the capital city.
“It seems Musisi is sleeping on her job because there is a lot of dust and mud in Kampala,”Museveni said on Friday.
“A good example is Clock Tower where mud collects whenever it rains and when the water dries, the mud remains on the road and it becomes dust.”
Museveni asked the KCCA Executive Director to take an example of Kololo independence grounds which he said were beautified and are now dust and mud free.
He said that at Kololo, some parts were well paved whereas others have greet belts and tarmac, urging Jennifer Musisi to emulate the same for Uganda’s capital to get rid of dust and mud.
The president advised Musisi to work on the side ways to ensure they are either tarmacked or paved to rid them of dust and also work on the channels so the water does not collect in roads.
“I have said it here on the microphone .We should not get embarrassed having dust in the city. Stop sleeping and work on the dust and mud,”Museveni said.
Many parts in the city are always left flooded whenever it rains but KCCA on many times blames the flooding on increased human activities such as illegal encroachment on wetlands and blocked drainage channels.
