This visit marks a key step forward in advancing the 2017 military cooperation agreement between Uganda and Qatar, which covers joint training, intelligence sharing, and counter-terrorism efforts.

The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, is currently on a diplomatic visit to Qatar, aimed at bolstering military ties and collaboration between Uganda and Qatar.

Gen Muhoozi, invited by Qatar’s Armed Forces, was welcomed by Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense, Dr Khaled bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah.

Their discussions centered on enhancing defense cooperation, and they later shared a luncheon hosted by Dr. Al-Attiyah, underscoring a warm and collaborative exchange.

This visit marks a key step forward in advancing the 2017 military cooperation agreement between Uganda and Qatar, which covers joint training, intelligence sharing, and counter-terrorism efforts.

While in Qatar, Gen Kainerugaba also engaged in discussions with Maj Gen Jassim Al-Attiyah, Commander of Qatar’s Joint Special Forces.

 

During this meeting, he received a comprehensive briefing and toured the base, gaining insights into the specialized capabilities of Qatar’s elite forces.

Accompanied by senior UPDF officials, including Col Christopher Muwumba and Lt Col Dr. Richard Katungye, Gen Kainerugaba’s delegation underscores the UPDF’s dedication to fostering strong bilateral defense relationships.

Additionally, Gen Muhoozi visited Qatar’s Military Police Forces and the National Service Academy, where he further engaged in discussions on mutual security interests.

The trip reflects Uganda’s commitment to building long-term strategic defense partnerships with Qatar.
