Minister Mayanja directs Kira RDC on Iran- Uganda Trade company land

The State Minister for Lands, Sam Mayanja has directed Kira municipality deputy RDC, Naboth Kagoro to ensure Iran-Uganda Trade and Investment Promotional Services Limited have their land back after a squabble with Uganda Investment Authority.

The company in June petitioned the minister alleging that their land on Kyadondo Block 234 Plot 5020, in Namanve Industrial Park where they had got a leasehold of three years was under threat by Uganda Investment Authority.

In the petition, the company said whereas they had established developments on the land, due to the cost implications, they took a long time to complete and consequently the lease expired.

The  Uganda Investment Authority using the pretext of the expiry of the lease attempted to evict the the company and were only stopped by court.

Later, President Museveni directed that the lease be extended.

However, last year, the Kira DPC presented a court order in which he evicted the company.

In his letter to the Kira deputy RDC, the minister guided that the lease by the company is a tenancy and protected by the constitution under Article 237 (1) and (3) (d) and that once one gets a lease under section 59 (1) (a) of the Land Act, the same is  not available for allocation to any other person or authority.

 Directive

Consequently, the minister has directed that Messers Iran Uganda Investments Promotional Limited  immediately takes physical occupancy of the subject land and that UIA must extend the lease in accordance with the law and presidential directives.

“All armed security guards must immediately be removed from the subject land,” Mayanja directed.

He also directed the Kira deputy RDC to “immediately” organize an orderly physical re-occupation of the subject land by the company to “give effect to the law and Presidential Directive

“ The Deputy RDC Kira Municipality must ensure  that Messer Iran Uganda Investments Promotional Limited enjoy quite possession of the subject land in accordance with the law.”
