The Chief of Defense Forces and Senior Presidential Adviser for Special Operations, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, held a strategic meeting with South Sudan's military chief, Gen Santino Deng Wol, at the Defense Intelligence and Security Headquarters earlier today.
The discussions centered on reinforcing security cooperation between Uganda and South Sudan, with a focus on addressing shared regional security challenges.
Both military leaders reaffirmed the robust relationship between their respective nations, underscoring the importance of strengthening military ties to enhance regional stability and security.
They emphasized the need for sustained collaboration to promote peace and protect the region from emerging threats.
The high-level meeting was attended by senior officers from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), including Deputy Chief of Defense Forces Lt Gen Sam Okiding, Airforce Commander Lt Gen Charles Okidi, Deputy Commander of Land Forces Maj Gen Francis Takirwa, and Chief of Defense Intelligence and Security Maj Gen James Birungi.
Brig Felix Busizoori, commander of the 4th Division, and Brig Keith Katungyi, commander of the 5th Division, were also present.
Gen Deng Wol was joined by senior military officers from South Sudan, highlighting the importance of the talks for both nations.
Since his appointment as Chief of Defense Forces, Gen Muhoozi has actively engaged with military counterparts from across Africa, including Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Mali, and Mozambique.
His leadership reflects Uganda’s commitment to fostering regional security partnerships and bolstering military cooperation across the continent.
