The Africa Monologue Challenge 2024 commenced in Uganda last week, kicking off its second season. This innovative competition is designed to reshape African storytelling, following the triumph of Ugandan actress Rachael Nduhukire, who won the inaugural season in Ghana last year.

This year ten contestants were presented, including two from Uganda, ready to showcase their talents and contribute to the continent’s evolving narrative.

Grace Kabayo, the Executive Secretary, Pan African Women's Organisation (PAWO), emphasized the need to counter negative portrayals of Uganda and Africa at large.

“Most of the stories told about Uganda are negative and destructive,” she said, emphasizing the competition’s goal of using short films and creative storytelling to highlight the beauty, diversity, and rich culture of Africa.

The contestants will live together in a Pan-African House, symbolizing unity and fostering collaboration. Activities while at the house include scriptwriting, creative challenges, and networking, all leading up to the grand finale. Nduhukire, known for her role as Melissa Kirunda in the "Sanyu" series, shared insights from her experience in Ghana, stressing the importance of time management, creativity, and authenticity in storytelling.

As Uganda prepares to host this significant cultural event, the Africa Monologue Challenge continues to be a powerful platform for changing the narrative of African storytelling, focusing on positivity and representing the continent’s true essence.
