Police have said most schools around the country have failed to  meet the  necessary standards of preventing and ensuring fire safety systems among schools.

According to Elly Walusimbi, the community liaison officer at the Police Fire and Rescue Services directorate, most schools lack equipment like fire extinguishers, motion sensors, education programs on fires among staff and learners as well as sprinkling systems that cast out fire incase of fire outbreaks.

Walusimbi tasked schools to be vigilant ahead of re-opening for second term saying that they record high cases of fires in schools during the months of June and July due to excessive heat.

According Among the leading causes of fires among schools according to police fires is caused by negligence from staff and bad wishers over land issues.
