Kabaka Birthday Run: Police issue traffic guidelines for Sunday
The Kabaka Birthday Run attracts thousands of runners each year

The Director of Traffic and Road Safety has announced guidelines that will be followed during the Kabaka birthday run slated to take place on Sunday in Kampala city.

In order to have a safe and secure event, Kampala Metropolitan Traffic has revealed that some roads will be closed to motorists to enable the over 110.000 runners to participate successfully.

In a press briefing held at Mengo, KMP traffic commander Godwin Arinaitwe outlined some roads that will be totally cut off to motorists and the major road diversions which the public will follow.

According to Arinaitwe, there will be four major road cut offs around Mengo and Lubiri affecting roads such as Xing Xing road junction, Nalongo road junction, Mengo hill road, Mwanga II road and Ring road.

“We appeal to the public that Ring road will be out of bounds. We don’t expect any motorists on this road. Similarly to Kabaka Njagala road right away from Lubiri to Bulange,”Arinaitwe said.

He also informed the public especially those that will be traveling from Entebbe that there will access Kampala city from Kibuye roundabout through Katwe Wansi and those from Masaka will enter the city from Natete traffic light junction.

Motorists from the Northern corridor, Wakiso, Nansana will access Entebbe road from Makerere hill road via Ham Towers to Nakulabye, Kasubi to Mengo.

Relatedly, Kampala Metropolitan deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire appealed the participants to be cooperative with police and keep disciplined and follow the guidelines by avoiding to use shortcuts as it could be dangerous.

This marathon will be run in three categories including 20Km, 10Km and 5km runners.

The Buganda Minister of Youths and Sports Robert Sserwanga Salongo informed the participants to arrive at Lubiri at 5am saying that all access to Lubiri will be controlled but the ticket to this event is the latest Kabaka birthday run kit of 2024.
