Govt heighten security at DR Congo borders

Police are asking the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious person or object.

Police and other security agencies have tightened security along the Uganda-DR Congo border after confirmation that Allied Democratic Front (ADF) rebels recently infiltrated the country.

Last week, the UPDF announced that ADF rebel militants had entered the country, and security forces are on the hunt for them.

There is hope for their arrest at any time, security said.

Police and sister security agencies have now stepped up operations and patrols along the Uganda-DR Congo border to ensure that no illegal immigrants re-enter the country.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga told journalists that security has also intensified operations.

‘‘We have intensified our patrols along the western borderline of Uganda with the eastern DRC, our joint security agencies of police," Enanga told journalists at the weekly security briefings in Naguru.

"UPDF, in coordination with joint intelligence components of CMI, ISO, crime intelligence are actively monitoring our external borderline with DRC following the infiltration into the country, a few notorious ADF rebel leaders.’’

Police have urged all people to be vigilant and cautious by reporting anything suspicious.

Officers guarding VIPs and key installations have also been cautioned to be more vigilant.

Police have also warned all those who volunteer to cooperate and collaborate with the wrong ADF elements that if caught they will face the consequences.

Last week, the UPDF announced that ADF rebels had infiltrated the country with the intention of carrying out attacks.

Security forces are on alert to avoid leaving any gap for terrorists to use.

Last year, the country suffered at the hands of the ADF rebels when they attacked Lhubiriha high school and killed students.
