Museveni commits Shs 200 M for Lwengo Muslim District Headquarters

President Museveni has pledged Shs 200 million for the construction of the Lwengo Muslim District Headquarters and Health Centre.

The ceremony, held at Mbiriizi Muslim Seed Secondary School in Mbiriizi Town Council, was attended by prominent figures from the government and the Muslim community.

Notable attendees included Defense Minister Vincent Bamulazeki Ssempija, State Minister for Micro Finance Haroon Kasolo, Member of Parliament Namujju Cissy, representing Lwengo District, and the chairperson of the organizing committee.

Local government leaders, led by LC 5 Haj. Ibrahim Kitatta and Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) were also present.

Representing the Muslim community, His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, led esteemed leaders such as Prof Dr. Muhammadi Lubega Kisambira, the UMSC National Chairperson, and Haj Abdu Kiyimba, former executive committee member. Christian religious leaders, headed by Bishop Serversus Jjumba, the Catholic Bishop of Masaka Diocese, were also in attendance.

President Museveni, accompanied by Mufti Mubaje, laid the foundation stone for the proposed headquarters and health centre, estimated to cost Shs 1.6 billion.

During his address, President Museveni expressed gratitude to the Muslim leadership for initiating the project and personally donated Shs 200 million.

He also approved the request for the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) Construction Unit to carry out the construction and assured further support as the project progressed.

Reflecting on his government's achievements, he emphasized the significance of poverty alleviation programs like the Parish Development Model (PDM) and urged local government leaders to promote similar initiatives that utilize land for production and combat poverty.

Additionally, he addressed concerns about tuition fees in public schools and committed to ensuring free education for all Ugandan learners.

Mufti Mubaje commended President Museveni for his development efforts and highlighted the stability of the UMSC, along with its ten-year Strategic Developmental Plan. He pledged UGX 10 million on behalf of the UMSC headquarters towards the project.
