As heat waves escalate across the country, the Uganda National Meteorological Authority (UNMA) has issued a warning, urging citizens to brace themselves for soaring temperatures.

Dr Isaac Mugume, the director of forecasting at UNMA, underscored the severity of the situation, highlighting temperature ranges between 30 and 36 degrees Celsius in various regions.

He emphasises the imperative of taking preventive measures to mitigate heat-related health risks.

"In light of escalating temperatures, it is crucial for the public to remain vigilant and take proactive steps to safeguard their well-being," Dr. Mugume asserted.

To combat the sweltering conditions, UNMA advised against alcohol consumption, emphasizing the importance of staying hydrated and opting for lightweight clothing.

These precautions are deemed essential to offset the adverse effects of the scorching heat.

With concerns mounting, Ugandans are urged to heed these warnings and prioritise their health and safety.

"We cannot overstate the importance of hydration and wearing appropriate clothing during such extreme heat conditions. These simple measures can significantly reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses," Dr Mugume said.

UNMA called upon citizens to remain informed and adhere to safety guidelines to navigate through the sweltering conditions effectively.

"The responsibility lies with each individual to take necessary precautions and prioritize their health amidst the intensifying heat waves," Mugume said.
