Civil servants overwhelm govt's verification exercise

The Ministry of Public Service is concerned by the overwhelming number of public officers showing up for the exercise than those initially planned.

This has been attributed to new employee’s recruitment that was done after the validation exercise by the Office of the Auditor General.

On Monday, the ministry commenced on second validation exercise of pubic officers who were partially or missed the validation exercise by the Office of the Auditor General that was held at closer of last year.

According to Catherine Bitarakwate, the permanent secretary, the ministry has been forced revise the Validation schedules in order to avoid spillovers from the earlier released schedule.

Savia Nampandu, the principal communication officer at the ministry, said revision of registration will see a few public servants accommodated in particular time and place.

"There are days we had put more districts than others and some numbers are spilling over to the following days for one reason or the other," she said.

"There is documentation required and you find that the public servants doesn't have all the required documentation."

Nampandu said those who do not have required documentation will be attended to the following day.

And that means that the following day has got more people than planned.

"So, the revision is to try to accommodate a few and then handle those for that day and the backlog," Nampandu said.
