BREAKING: One dead in Lugazi road crash

Witness attributed the accident to speeding by the cattle truck driver, who reportedly lost control when he attempted to avoid a pothole in the middle of road.

BUIKWE | At least one person has been confirmed dead and scores injured in a road accident that occurred between Lugalambo and Kitigoma village in Buikwe District on Jinja-Kampala highway.

The accident involved a Fuso truck Reg No. UBM 519B carrying cattle,  sheep, goats and traders from Jinja side heading to Kampala, that collided with a tipper Reg No UBK 223H carrying sand.

"For the time being, I can confirm that one person has died, but our officers are still on the scene," Helen Butoto, spokesperson for the Ssezibwa  Region Police, told the Nile Post.

Witness attributed the accident to speeding by the cattle truck driver, who reportedly lost control when he attempted to avoid a pothole in the middle of road.

"We have witnessed many accidents in this place because of the potholes coupled with a narrow road," Ayijuka Eriot, a boda boda operator in Kitigoma, said

The injured were rushed to Jinja Hospital for treatment while the body of the deceased was conveyed to Kawolo Hospital morgue.

Meanwhile, with cows, goats and sheep strewn on the tarmac, locals forgot the tragedy and embraced life's needs and went about slaughtering the dead animals and made away with meat.
