The peaceful village of Buyovu in Bukomansimbi has become the center of controversy as a government vehicle linked to alleged land-grabbing activities was seized by local police.
The Toyota double-cabin registration number UG 4302C, belonging to Mayuge RDC, was reportedly used by his wife, Annet Madoi, and her brother, Kayemba Robert, in a scheme that has left residents fuming.
Eyewitnesses claim that the duo, who identified themselves as State House employees, used the official vehicle to intimidate locals, asserting their authority over land matters.
The situation escalated when a recorded video captured Kayemba Robert threatening to kill 87-year-old Kazige Lawrence if he persisted in land disputes.
The vehicle was discreetly concealed in a cauliflower forest, only to be discovered by a police patrol, adding an element of intrigue to the unfolding investigation.
Mayuge RDC's family failed to provide satisfactory answers during questioning, with Annet Madoi even unable to disclose her government job, raising suspicion about her use of a government vehicle.
The Buyovu community voiced concerns about the alleged land-grabbing activities facilitated by the official vehicle.
"The vehicle is sometimes driven by people in military uniforms and sometimes by people in civilian clothes, and it has been in the area for three days now," said Abdulsalaam Ssembuya.
Tensions among residents reached a boiling point as they expressed frustration over what they perceive as an abuse of power by individuals claiming association with the State House.
Luwaga Joseph Kitayimbwa, another resident, appealed for urgent intervention from President Museveni and concerned authorities.
The situation prompted Bukomansimbi deputy RDC Fred Kalema Pax and DPC Romeo Onec to order the arrest of Kayemba Robert, Annet Madoi, and the driver to aid in further investigations.
Bukomansimbi district chairperson Nyenje Fred Kayiira issued a stern warning.
"All those who think they will use the State House to grab people’s properties in Bukomansimbi district will face consequences," Kayiira said.
As the investigation unfolds, the community anxiously awaits revelations regarding the extent of the alleged land-grabbing activities and the involvement of Mayuge RDC's family members.
