Police Cracks Down on Errant Drivers As Accident Fatalities Rise

The traffic police on Thursday arrested 26 drivers with fake permits and impounded hundreds of vehicles after they were found not road worthy.

This is part of the Tembeya Salama Reloaded operation launched following accidents on the Gulu – Kampala Highway that have rattled the nation over the past two weeks.

Operation Tembeya Salama Reloaded is aimed at returning sanity to the roads – and follows gruesome accidents including one that claimed 22 people when a Gaagaa company bus rammed into a tractor along the Kampala – Gulu road.

At Usafi Market in Kampala, traffic officers spent hours interfacing with drivers over the road worthiness of their motor vehicles.

Several motor vehicles were impounded while drivers with questionable permits were also arrested.

Some drivers were found with fake permits and insurance stickers.

The operation is to be rolled out to other parts of Kampala and the country.
