KCCA FC begin their CAF Champions league journey

Uganda Premier League defending champions KCCA FC will on Friday evening start their maiden journey in the CAF champions’ league with a battle against Botswana giants Township Rollers.

The Kasasiro boys who arrived in Gaborone on Wednesday are in high spirits as they play a team many see as the underdogs in the group.

“We are ready for the game. We shall play our way, a good game and try to get a good result,” KCCA FC coach Mike Mutebi told journalists during a pre-match briefing on Thursday.

The Ugandan champions will greatly rely on the services of on form striker Muhammad Shaban to help them break the hosts.

The team will however pray youngster Tom Ikara who will replace suspended Charles Lukwago in the sticks rises up to the occasion on Friday despite having no experience at this stage having been recruited to the Lugogo side in January from Kirinya Jinja S.S.

On the other side, the Ugandan representatives should be wary of midfielder Ivan Ntege who will be turning the guns against his former paymasters.

According to Township Rollers’ coach Nikola Kavazovic, only a small details and mistakes will determine the winner of the Friday game.

“We are both debutants in the competition and that pressure will bring a mistake,” the Serbian told journalists on Thursday.

“Any result at the end of the day will not be surprise.”

KCCA FC and their Botswana hosts are in group A of the CAF champions league together Egyptian and Tunisian giants Al Ahly and Esperance respectively.
