The Uganda Journalists Association, the umbrella body for journalists in Uganda has recognized several individuals for roles played in the development of the country as the world celebrate the annual press freedom day.

During a dinner held at Hotel Africana in Kampala, David Ssenfuka, the brain behind Uganda’s cancer and diabetes curing herbal remedy was recognized for efforts in promoting herbal medicine.

Ssenfuka, is also the proprietor of Leonia-NNN-Medical Research and Diagnostic Center Limited in Kasubi, a Kampala suburb.

“I welcome the award and appreciate the Uganda Journalists Association for recognizing my efforts in taking research in herbal medicine forward. It is high time the public realized that with herbal medicine, Uganda can help deal with a number of illnesses,”Ssenfuka said.

“By looking out for researchers and highlighting their stories, the media is putting a brick on the development of research in the country which is a good idea.”

He said government should support research in herbal medicine as a way of dealing with the country’s health problems.

Referring to President Museveni’s recent remarks about Africa’s pathogenic economy which offers huge opportunities but is now being taken advantage of by others as Africa is asleep; Ssenfuka said by supporting research in herbal medicine, government will ensure support to the country’s pathogenic economy.

“The signs available show government is ready to assist researchers me inclusive. However, we ask that this assistance is sped up,” he said.

A number of high profile persons in the country including retired Chief Justice, Samuel Wako Wambuzi and  former MP  for Buwekula CountyKasole Lwanga Bwerere among others have testified to have got cured by Ssenfuka's herbal medicine.

The Uganda National Health Research Organisation’s Natural Chemotherapeutics Research Institute that carried out a phytochemical analysis of his herbal formula.
