Police disciplinary court to decide Kirumira fate today

The Police disciplinary court that sits at Naguru is set to deliver its ruling in a number of cases against former Old Kampala and Buyende District Police Commander Muhammad Kirumira today Tuesday.

Kirumira is accused of a number of offences including Corruption, Unlawful excessive use of Authority, Neglect of duty and Scandalous manner, contrary to the Police Act while still at Old Kampala as DPC and as the officer in charge of Nansana police between 2013 and 2014.

The maverick police officer recently punched holes in the evidence against him by the prosecution side led by Catherine Kusemereire before some of the charges against him were dropped after witnesses failed to turn up to pin him.

During Kirumira’s trial, the police was put in the spotlight for beating journalists who had come to cover the proceedings of the case.

Early this year, Kirumira who was then deployed in Buyende as DPC said he had resigned from both the position and the force over what he termed as witch-hunt by some of the top leadership in the force in a bid to tarnish his name among the members of the public.

He would later be forcefully arrested from his home and detained at Nalufenya detention centre.

On Tuesday, the panel of police officers led by the court chairman Denis Odongpiny will finally give its judgment after adjourning it for over four times.
