UPDF explains to Congolese population the attack on ADF camps

The Ugandan troops together with FARDC have engaged with local communities in DRC in a bid to bridge the gap left after the successful launch of  Operation Shuja to flush out ADF rebels.The UPDF earlier last week launched an operation code-named Shuja, a Kiswahili word for "bravery" in which air force and artillery attacks targeted ADF camps in the Eastern part of DRC.

However, for the last two day, armies from both countries have carried out  medical outreach programs and constructed water point facilities to the civilian population  in Mukakati, Kitibombo and Kamango.

Speaking at one of the sensitization activities  Col James Kasule explained that UPDF presence in DR Congo was moved by the ADF atrocities to citizens of both DRC and Uganda.

"Our core objective of coming to Congo is to help our brothers FARDC flush out ADF terrorists from their safe haven so that both countries can have peace," he said.

The Task Force Commander  for Operation Shuja, Col James Kasule further called upon civilians to cooperate with the joint security forces and provide information leading to the elimination of wrong elements with in communities.

He promised peace after uprooting ADF from their hideouts and urged locals to take the sick to the treatment centers.

The FARDC Intelligence Officer Col Montana Kyalu expressed happiness in having the two armies coming together to end the insurgency situation in the region.

He called for calm, saying there is need  for peace in both countries.

Locals  in North Kivu, expressed their gratitude for UPDFs involvement in liberating DR Congo, noting that ADF had committed several atrocities against them.

Col James Kasule was accompanied by the Operation Shuja spokesperson Maj Peter Mugisa, Political Commissar of the operation Maj Moses Byamukama and Capt Andrew  Tibeyalirwa the 111 Brigade Intelligence Officer.
