Uganda Clays has joined forces with other partners to revive community based programs that are key in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
The company made the announcement in commemoration of the Worlds Aids Day.
“We are grateful to the government of Uganda for the interventions to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS in Uganda. The numbers give evidence of their efforts. At Uganda Clays, we have a robust HIV/AIDS prevention system that includes the testing, counselling and treatment of staff and the communities where we work. To ensure that no child is born with Aids and no one dies from Aids, each individual must take responsibility for their actions," said Reuben Tumwebaze, the managing director of Uganda Clays.
This year marks 40 years since the first cases of AIDS were reported. Then, HIV was a death sentence in many parts of the world.
At the end of September 2020, of the estimated 1.4 million people living with HIV in Uganda, 86% had been diagnosed, 99% of those diagnosed were on treatment and 74% of those on treatment were virally suppressed.
"Progress against the AIDS pandemic, which was already off track, is now under even greater strain as the Covid-19 crisis continues to rage, disrupting HIV prevention and treatment services, schooling, violence-prevention programmes and more. We cannot be forced to choose between ending the AIDS pandemic today and preparing for the pandemics of tomorrow. The only successful approach will achieve both. As of now, we are not on track to achieve either," said UNAIDS executive director, Winnie Byanyima.
