Government has cautioned the media against irresponsible reporting on the arrival of Afghanistan refugees in Uganda saying it may endanger the country’s national Security.

Presenting a ministerial statement on Afghanistan refugees and Ugandans who are still suck in the war ton area, the State Minister for Regional Affairs John Mulimba said there is need to keep the confidentiality of Afghanistan refugees as they may be a target of the Taliban government.

Mulimba told the House that so far there are only two known Ugandans who are still stranded in Afghanistan because of the challenges in accessing the international airport at Kabul.

Without delving into the details of the evacuated Afghanistan refugees in the country, the minister revealed to Parliament that the refugees are just in transit to their final destination but it will be the US government to foot all the bills.

"The government will in the coming period continue to engage with the US embassy in Kampala to extend the necessary assistance to the evacuees from Afghanistan," he said.

Mulimba sounded a warning to the media against irresponsible reporting on the matter saying many of the refugees are targets of the Taliban government.

On the issue of the endless ambushes of Ugandan traders in South Sudan, the minister said his counterpart Okello Oryem is in Juba to try to resolve the matter.
