The committee is expected to review the current leadership under Winnie Kiiza and make the necessary changes.
Amuriat who was addressing journalists at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi to mark his first 100 days said the changes are expected to strengthen the party.
“In this line we have considered a number of budgets that have gone a long way to run this party and we have also considered leadership changes in the parliament of Uganda,” Amuriat said.
“It was decided here for various reasons that Hon Anite Among be replaced with Hon Mubarak munyagwa and if it is not done, we shall question why,” he added.
On 1stDecember 2017, Patrick Oboi Amuriat was announced the FDC party president after a tightly contested race with then incumbent Major General Mugisha Muntu.
Many pundits see the current leadership under Leader of Opposition Winnie Kiiza as owing allegiance to Maj Gen. Muntu.
FDC has 29 members in the 10th parliament of Uganda. Much anticipated is his handling of the leadership at Parliament where the party continues to dictate the opposition leadership due to its numbers.
It is thus expected that Amuriat’s changes in the August House will generate debate. To apparently avoid massive scrutiny, the party president has instituted an appointments committee led by former Leader of Opposition Wafula Oguttu to handle the task of changing leadership.
Amuriat also revealed how FDC has been in talks with Democratic Republic of Congo negotiating for the release of FDC activist Sam Mugumya who was arrested in 2014.
“A high power delegation is going to make a visitation somewhere to try and secure the release of Sam (Mugumya) and his colleagues. I want you to excuse me because I can’t go into details of that for they are sensitive in nature,” Amuriat said.
Patrick Oboi Amuriat who has been in office for close to four months now, said his regime had registered a number of achievements.
18th march 2018 marked 100 days of Patrick Oboi Amuriat as FDC’s party president. Amuriat highlighted the Jinja municipality east by election victory and his reconciliation with the former party president Rtd Gen Mugisha Muntu as his major achievements. He however noted that one of the challenges in his 100 days in office has been the party members that have taken long to heal from the last party presidential results.
