Germany congratulates Museveni on election victory ahead of swearing-in

The German Chancellor Angela Merkel has congratulated President Yoweri Museveni on his election victory ahead of of his swearing in ceremony tomorrow.

President Museveni is due to be sworn in on Wednesday, May 12, 2021. Museveni was declared winner in the presidential election held on January 14.

Merkel’s message was shared on social media by the German Embassy in Uganda.

In her message, Merkel congratulated Museveni for his resounding victory in the January 2021 elections which he won by 58.38%.

“I would like to congratulate you on your reelection as President of the Republic of Uganda,” reads part of Merkel’s message.

“Your new term in office is an opportunity to continue advancing the democratic and economic development of your country and strengthening the rule of law in the interests of all Ugandans”

She said the German government will remain a willing partner to Uganda during the president elect’s new term.

The message continued, “I wish you strength and a sure hand for the tasks that now lie ahead.”

Museveni will be sworn in on Wednesday at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in an event that will be graced by over 21 heads of states and delegates from different corners of the world.
