NUP appears clueless, unable to lead, says Mpuuga
Former Leader of the Opposition, Mathias Mpuuga has criticised the National Unity Platform (NUP), labeling it as clueless and incapable of guiding its disheartened members.
Addressing the media, Mpuuga stated, "I am committed to staying and initiating internal reforms within the party to ensure it becomes a credible and effective alternative government."

Mpuuga responded to various allegations against the party, emphasizing its lack of direction compared to President Museveni's clear agenda, including recent changes in the UPDF leadership.
"The party has shown no interest even insignificant events like the renewal of Electoral Commission Commissioners," Mpuuga said l.
He reassured NUP's leadership, members, and supporters of his dedication to the party, emphasizing his plans for internal reforms.
Mpuuga extended gratitude to supporters, especially those in the diaspora, acknowledging their contributions and urging a focus beyond social media activism.
He emphasised the need for diaspora citizens to participate more actively in Uganda's political processes, advocating for electoral and constitutional reforms to facilitate their involvement.
Mpuuga outlined his vision for NUP, promising to eradicate practices such as nepotism, corruption, and lack of internal democracy through the reform process.
The MP has faced pressure following allegations of receiving a significant sum in 2022, leading to his removal from the position of Leader of the Opposition in December.
While NUP retained Mpuuga as a backbench commissioner, the party later moved to revoke this position, citing corruption and abuse of office.
Mpuuga affirmed his commitment to NUP, asserting his status as one of its founders and dismissing rumours of his departure.
Mityana Municipalilty MP, Francis Zaake temporarily replaced Mpuuga as a parliamentary commissioner, a decision endorsed by NUP's National Executive Committee.
Mpuuga expressed no animosity towards the party leader Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine and encouraged those curious about their relationship to approach him directly.
