Plane gets stuck in pothole at Kenyan airport

Kenyans have expressed dismay at the state of their airports following a video that went viral on social media showing a plane stuck in one of the potholes at Wilson Airport in Nairobi.

The video posted by Daily Nation website, shows airport staff struggling for hours to release the plane from a huge pothole.  The aircraft, a 5Y-SMK had its wheels stuck while taxing on the runaway.

Wilson airport handles over 120,000 landings and take-offs annually, but 90 percent are domestic flights.

Kenya Civil Aviation Authority Director-General, Gilbert Kibe on watching the video said the Authority cannot comment on the situation as yet.

Earlier this month, a plane carrying khat also known as miraa got stuck in a pothole at the same airport.

In October 2012, An unknown number of people, including two pilots of a private jet, narrowly escaped death after their plane crashed immediately before it took off at the Malindi Airport. The 12-seater plane allegedly hit a pothole and its tyre burst as it took off.
