National Unity Platform leaders are meeting with Police top brass in Naguru to iron out the deadlock related to the party's mobilisation tour

National Unity Platform officials led by Leader of the Opposition, Joel Ssenyonyi, and Secretary General David LRubongoya arrived at Police Headquarters in Naguru, Kampala, on Monday morning ahead of their meeting with police.

The meeting seeks to end a deadlock over NUP's public activities after Police insisted the country's main Opposition party led by pop star turned politician Robert Kyagulanyi has not indicated willingness to abide by its public order management protocol.

NUP joined other political parties on the consultative political drive but police have not allowed them to speak to even a rat, with the maiden rally in Kamuli foiled after several supporters were arrested last Wednesday. Attempts to go to Pallisa on Thursday were met with sharp spikes, batons and boots at Sezibwe Bridge. NUP says it had written to the IGP informing of their meetings. After the Kamuli incident, Mr Ssenyonyi led some officials to Naguru to deliver a second letter but police still did not yield.
