Mulindwa Threatens Fufa With Court Action Over ‘Unprofessional’ Coach Raids

Vipers president Lawrence Mulindwa has accused the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa) of interfering in club operations and taking technical staff without proper communication, warning that the club could pursue legal action if the practice continues.

Speaking on Friday during the club’s Annual General Meeting at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, Mulindwa expressed frustration over what he described as repeated instances where coaches are recruited into national team structures without prior engagement with their clubs.

“This must stop now,” Mulindwa warned.

His remarks come in the wake of staffing changes that saw assistant coach Fred Muhumuza leave Vipers in December 2025 after being appointed assistant coach of the Uganda Cranes under Belgian tactician Paul Put.

Muhumuza had joined Vipers in April 2024 during a difficult transition period and worked alongside John “Ayala” Luyinda to stabilise the team.

The pair played a central role in Vipers’ resurgence, helping the club secure the 2024/25 league title and domestic double in a highly competitive campaign.

However, Mulindwa said Muhumuza’s departure came at a critical moment for the club as it prepared for the Cecafa Kagame Club Championship and Caf Champions League assignments.

“We were preparing for Cecafa Kagame Club Championship and the Caf Champions League, but they took our coach without informing us. It also happened with the late Fred Kajoba. We just don’t want to fight, but we shall take you on. Let it stop now,” Mulindwa said.

He criticised what he termed poor communication between the federation and clubs.

“Fufa should respect clubs. They take your coach without notice. I only heard about Fred Muhumuza going to CHAN on radio. Fufa should stop doing things in an amateur way. Let it stop now, or we shall take you to court,” he added.

Mulindwa also raised concerns over alleged conflicts of interest within Fufa committees, arguing that club officials should not serve on sensitive federation organs.

“Fufa should stop appointing club administrators to sensitive positions. For example, Deo Kasozi is on the Fufa Legal and Rules Committee, which can bring up conflict of interest,” he said.

The remarks come as Vipers continues to enjoy one of its most dominant periods under Belgian coach Ivan Jacky Minnaert.

The Venoms completed the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League season unbeaten, finishing with 67 points to secure their eighth league title.
