Uganda Launches Game Jam 2026 to Boost Local Gaming Industry
This is how industries grow by bringing together talent and opportunity. Uganda has a real chance to become a hub for gaming in Africa

Uganda has officially launched Game Jam 2026 at the Deep Tech Centre of Excellence, bringing together developers, creatives and technology stakeholders in a move aimed at growing the country’s gaming industry and creating jobs for young people.

The initiative is spearheaded by the Science, Technology and Innovation Secretariat in partnership with Tech Anatomy, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Development Centre (EDIC) and Arudem.

Speaking at the launch, Yasmina Boubnider Kazitani of the Blockchain Game Alliance said Africa’s gaming sector still holds significant untapped potential. She urged participants to develop competitive content capable of reaching global markets.

Game developer Ronald Kayima noted that the Game Jam will help strengthen connections within Uganda’s gaming community while providing practical skills that can translate into employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.

Representing government, David Gonahasa said Uganda has the talent needed to compete internationally, adding that efforts are underway to improve digital infrastructure and access to funding for innovators.

Gamer and game show host Danze Edwin described the initiative as a significant milestone for the industry.

“This is how industries grow by bringing together talent and opportunity. Uganda has a real chance to become a hub for gaming in Africa,” he said.

During the event, participants are expected to develop game prototypes, with outstanding projects set to receive mentorship and potential support for further development.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to position Uganda within Africa’s expanding digital economy, with gaming increasingly viewed as a new frontier for innovation, skills development and youth employment.
