Kilak North County Member of Parliament Anthony Akol has been involved in an accident along the Kampala – Gulu highway.

The accident happened at around 3am in the wee hours of Thursday morning at Wakisanyi village in Kiryandongo district  when a TX Prado registration number UAY 347W that was chauffeuring Akol hit a stray cow which was crossing the road.

“The vehicle was being driven by Felix Ongola coming from Kampala to Gulu driving the Kilak North MP,” said the Albertine region Police spokesperson ASP Julius Allan Hakiza.

“The Member of Parliament sustained injuries in the chest as a result of the seatbelt and is currently admitted at Kiryandongo hospital.”

A number of accidents have in the past few years occurred along the Kampala- Gulu highway, leaving a number of people dead whereas many others have sustained serious injuries.

Early this year, four people died and 48 others sustained injuries when a Link bus registration number UBA 332B swerved off the road after a tyre puncture, losing control, overturning at slipped into a trench.

The accident on February 3 happened at Namayonjo village, Wabinyonyi sub-county in Nakasongola district.

The deadliest accident happened in May last year at Nanda village, 12 kilometres from Karuma town in Kiryandongo district when a Gaaga bus traveling from Lira to Kampala hit a tractor from its rear before it rolled and collided with an oncoming cargo lorry transporting crates of beer.

At least 22 people died in the accident whereas many others sustained serious injuries.

Another accident involved a Toyota hiace registration number UBD 061D belonging to Pepsi ‘Twangula’ promotion and a pick up loaded with chicken and a motorcycle.
