Storm winds, heavy rain destroy plantations, homes in five Kasese villages

Heavy rains and strong winds have destroyed property worth millions of shillings in villages of Kihyo, Muzahura, Motomoto and Murambi in Kitswamba sub county, Kasese district.

The heavy rains and storm winds that started yesterday evening ravaged a number of banana plantations and houses, leaving residents devastated.

Talking to Mughenda Black, a model farmer in Kihyo, he explained that bananas which would earn him around 4.5 million were destroyed by the heavy winds in just 30 minutes. He hopes relief agencies from the government will intervene.

Enock Bwambale, a resident of Murambi village in Kitswamba sub-county, lost his house. Bwambale could only look on his 8 million shillings investment was brought down by heavy winds and rain that hit the village.

Jane Rose Naziwa, a resident, was shocked to find the roof of her house inside one of the rooms when she returned from the farden. She had borrowed 250,000 shillings to buy iron sheets to repair the roof. They are now damaged beyond repair or further use.

Byasewa Asasio, a seedlings supplier in Kitswamba sub-county, appeals to the government to come to the rescue of the residents.
