The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has scheduled its first Parliamentary Caucus meeting for members of the 12th Parliament on Sunday, May 24, 2026 at State House Entebbe.

NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong said in a notice on Wednesday that all party Members of Parliament have been invited to attend the meeting, which will begin at 2pm.

As is with all events involvingthe presidency, the legislators have been asked to take Covid tests in time for the meeting whose agenda Todwong did not specify but will likely discuss the May 25 election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

"All members are required to undergo mandatory Covid-19 testing at the Parliamentary Conference Hall between Friday, May 22 and Saturday, May 23, from 9am to 5pm," he said.

The communication also extends an invitation to independent Members of Parliament who have expressed interest in cooperating with the NRM to attend the caucus meeting.

The meeting comes at a time of heightened political activity within Parliament, with attention increasingly shifting to internal leadership arrangements for key parliamentary positions.

NRM holds 354 seats in Uganda's 12th Parliament with about 63 independent members, the majority of whom are affiliated to the ruling party.

The meeting comes on the back of a rollercoaster activity that has seen Parliament turned inside-out with former Speaker Anita Among facing wide-ranging corruption probe.

Accued of corruption and accumulation of illicit wealth, Among's properties were reportedly searched again on Wednesday, with security teams said to have impounded additional luxury vehicles, including high-end SUVs.

Earlier operations reportedly saw the seizure of a Rolls-Royce and a Range Rover as part of ongoing evidence gathering efforts.

Meanwhile, political realignments within the ruling establishment have also drawn attention. Chief of Defence Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, through his Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), declared support for West Budama County South MP Jacob Oboth-Oboth for the Speakership, while backing Thomas Tayebwa to retain his position as Deputy Speaker.

Muhoozi is also said to have stated that President Museveni had endorsed the arrangement, further shaping expectations ahead of internal parliamentary contests.

The convergence of the NRM caucus meeting and the unfolding investigations is expected to influence early dynamics in the 12th Parliament, particularly around leadership stability and internal party cohesion.
