Leaders across Kayunga District have expressed deep sorrow following the death of district NRM chairperson Moses Karangwa Kaliisa, who died in a fatal road accident at Sukka along the Kayunga–Jinja road.

The district chairperson, Andrew Muwonge, described Karangwa as a committed mobiliser and unifying figure whose contribution to the ruling party and local development efforts will be greatly missed.

“We have lost a hardworking leader who dedicated his life to serving people and strengthening the party structures across the district,” Muwonge said.

Speaking at the district headquarters in Ntenjeru, Kayunga Town Council, Muwonge said Karangwa worked tirelessly to strengthen the National Resistance Movement (NRM) structures and promote party mobilisation in the district.

Former Minister for Older Persons, Sulaiman Kyebakoze Madada, also mourned Karangwa, describing him as a courageous and loyal cadre who consistently promoted unity and development.

“This is a painful loss not only to the NRM fraternity but to the entire district. Karangwa was approachable, committed and always ready to support community causes,” Madada said.

Kayunga Resident District Commissioner Jimmy Naimbi Mugwanya called on residents to remain calm and support the bereaved family during this difficult period.

“We are coordinating with family members, district leaders and party officials to ensure a dignified farewell for our colleague,” Mugwanya said.

He praised Karangwa for his contribution to community mobilisation and development initiatives in the district.

District leaders said burial preparations were underway, with vigils taking shape at Budaali village in Bbaale Sub-county, where relatives, friends, political leaders and residents are expected to gather to pay their last respects.

Messages of condolence continued to pour in from across the district and beyond as mourners flocked to the family home.
