The man accused of killing four children at a daycare centre in Ggaba is expected to reappear in court today as investigations into the case continue.
The suspect, Christopher Okello Onyum, was on Monday arraigned before the Makindye Chief Magistrates Court and charged with four counts of murder following the attack at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Centre in Makindye Division.
Prosecution alleges that Onyum committed the offences on April 2, 2026, after gaining access to the daycare where the children were studying. He is accused of unlawfully causing the deaths of Ignatius Sseruyange, Ryan Odeke, Keisha Elungat, and Gideon Eteku.
Court heard that the suspect allegedly posed as a parent seeking admission for a child, which enabled him to access the school premises. He reportedly entered a classroom with about 14 pupils shortly after leaving the administration office, where he had inquired about school fees.
Onyum was not allowed to take plea, as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court. Makindye Grade One Magistrate Aidah Nanjala remanded him to Luzira Prison.
He is expected back in court for mention of the case as inquiries into the motive and circumstances surrounding the incident continue.
The case has sparked widespread concern, with calls for justice for the victims and renewed attention on safety measures in schools. Authorities say investigations are ongoing as the matter is prepared for trial.
