Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka has told Parliament that government won't appeal the ruling quashing parts of the Computer Misuse Act.
"There are sufficient provisions in existing law to deal with those misusing computers and social media," Kiwanuka said, responding to concerns raised by Kampala Central MP Muhammad Nsereko.
Instead, government will introduce new amendments to address gaps in the law, according to Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka.
The nullified provisions had sparked debate on digital rights and freedom of expression. Kiwanuka's stance suggests a shift towards refining legislation rather than pursuing appeals.
Nsereko had raised concerns about online safety, but Kiwanuka assured existing laws can handle misuse cases. The move signals government's intent to balance regulation with digital freedoms.
