Speaking during a special Mass held at the diocesan cathedral in Masaka City, Bishop Severus Jjumba presided over a significant ceremony marking the beginning of the holy period.

The Mass featured the blessing of sacred oils used in administering sacraments such as priesthood ordination, baptism, and the anointing of the sick.

The celebration began with a solemn procession into the cathedral, drawing a large congregation of believers, priests, and male and female religious leaders from across the diocese.

During the service, priests renewed their commitments before the bishop, pledging obedience and dedication to serving the Church and its faithful.

Addressing the congregation, Bishop Jjumba described the week as sacred and called on Christians to observe it with reverence.

“This is a holy week that should be observed with silence and deep reflection by all Christians,” he said.

He further emphasized the importance of Sunday Mass attendance, stating, “Every Christian must make it a priority to attend Mass on Sunday, as it is central to our faith and spiritual growth.”

However, the bishop cautioned against inappropriate behavior during worship.

“Mass is not a place for dancing or shouting names. It is a sacred moment that requires respect and devotion,” he stressed.

Bishop Jjumba also expressed gratitude to priests for their dedication, encouraging believers to appreciate their role in guiding the faithful.

“Let us thank our priests for the great work they do in leading us to the Holy Eucharist,” he noted.

He also advised married couples to remain committed to their sacramental responsibilities.

“Marriage is a sacred covenant. Couples must go beyond merely being joined together and ensure they fulfill their duties faithfully,” he said.

As Christians prepare to conclude the Lenten season, the bishop encouraged full participation in upcoming key celebrations.

“I urge all believers to actively take part in the Holy Thursday and Easter Vigil Masses as we prepare to celebrate the resurrection of Christ,” he added.
