Church leaders in West Buganda Field have raised concern over increasing levels of hopelessness among young people, urging them to stay focused and actively pursue their goals.
Speaking at the diocesan headquarters in Ttamu Village, Bishop Godfrey Lubwama noted a worrying trend of idleness among youth, which he said is hindering both personal growth and community development.
“It is worrying to see many young people giving up on their dreams. We must encourage them to work hard and remain focused if they are to achieve meaningful progress in life,” he said.
The bishop made these remarks during a meeting that brought together gospel ministers from 21 districts under the West Buganda Field. The gathering centered on mobilizing resources for key development projects, including the purchase of an official vehicle for the bishop and other institutional initiatives.
Bishop Lubwama also called on church leaders to take an active role in community engagement. He encouraged them to support initiatives such as the upcoming Kabaka’s Birthday Run by purchasing kits and mobilizing their congregations to participate.
“We must lead by example and inspire our members to take part in activities that promote unity and development,” he added.
Gerald Sekajja, a diocesan official, revealed that the church requires between UGX 250 million and UGX 450 million to acquire a vehicle that would facilitate the bishop’s pastoral work across the region.
“We are mobilizing resources to ensure that the bishop can effectively reach all areas under his jurisdiction. This is essential for strengthening service delivery within the church,” Sekajja explained.
He further noted that the diocese is working toward elevating its administrative status to a conference level, a move expected to improve operational efficiency and expand outreach efforts.
Pastors who attended the meeting emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration in driving sustainable development projects within the diocese.
The meeting ultimately highlighted both spiritual and socio-economic challenges affecting communities, with leaders calling for renewed commitment to faith, hard work, and collective progress.
