The 2026 edition of the Cancer Run was officially launched at St. Francis Hospital Nsambya by Anita Among, Speaker of Parliament, with government officials reaffirming their commitment to fight cancer in partnership with Rotary Uganda and other stakeholders.

The event, scheduled for 30th August at Kololo Independence Grounds, aims to raise funds for the completion of the One-Stop Cancer Centre at Nsambya Hospital, including the installation of Linear Accelerator machines for advanced cancer treatment.

At the launch, which brought together stakeholders from the media, health sector, and banking institutions, Speaker Among urged leaders and citizens to unite in supporting Rotary’s mission of service delivery and compassionate leadership.

“The Rotary Cancer Centre at Nsambya Hospital will be completed. The government will contribute Shs. 3 billion towards this life-saving healthcare initiative,” Among said.

Joseph Balikuddembe, Executive Director of Centenary Bank, emphasized the importance of collective action in combating cancer.

He reaffirmed Centenary Bank’s 15-year partnership with Rotary Uganda and announced a Shs500 million contribution to this year’s campaign.

“Innovation must serve humanity. I urge the public to download the Gonza Pay app to purchase race kits and join the fight for a healthier and more inclusive Uganda,” Balikuddembe said. The Gonza Pay app, a digital wallet developed by Centenary Bank, will simplify electronic payments and boost participation in the fundraising drive.

The Rotary Cancer Run programme focuses on four pillars: awareness and screening, infrastructure, expansion, and collaboration. Partnering with the Uganda Cancer Institute, the initiative seeks to bring specialized cancer care closer to communities across Uganda.

Organizers highlighted that the Gonza Pay platform will allow participants and donors to contribute without relying on cash, further expanding the reach and efficiency of the fundraising campaign. Over the past 15 years, Centenary Bank has contributed more than Shs. 3 billion to health and community programs through the Cancer Run initiative.
