More than 60 Christians were confirmed at St. Balunabba Church of Uganda in Nazigo Parish, Kangulumira Archdeaconry, Mukono Diocese during a special service on Sunday.
The confirmation and Holy Communion service was presided over by Rt. Rev. Enos Kitto Kagodo, Bishop of Mukono Diocese.
In his sermon, Bishop Kagodo encouraged the newly confirmed believers to serve the nation through practical good works, moral living, and environmental conservation.
He urged Christians to actively protect the environment, particularly through tree planting, and condemned rising levels of immorality, drug abuse, and environmental degradation in communities.
The Bishop specifically criticized the misuse and poor disposal of polythene bags, calling on the government to enforce existing environmental protection laws.
He also appealed to parents to support their children’s education by providing basic needs such as lunch, uniforms, and scholastic materials.
“The government pays teachers, but parents must contribute to school activities and ensure children’s educational needs are met,” Bishop Kagodo said.
He further warned the newly confirmed Christians against ungodly conduct, emphasizing that upholding Christian values is vital. The Bishop cautioned those involved in land grabbing, noting that injustice and greed would ultimately bring divine judgment.
Bishop Kagodo’s chaplain, Rev. Joshua Lujja, praised women during the celebrations for International Women’s Day and encouraged them to remain steadfast in faith despite challenges.
He reminded Christians that diligence and hard work honor God, citing 1 Thessalonians 3:6–15 and Proverbs 6:6–11.
“God does not want us to be beggars or burdens to others. Hard work carries no curse,” he said, urging believers to use their time, skills, and talents to glorify Christ and serve their communities.
The Parish Priest of Nazigo Parish, Rev. Eliphaz Bwabye Ssebuko, highlighted challenges affecting the community, including theft of livestock, land and crops by unemployed youth, witchcraft, and community divisions.
Despite these, he reported progress through increased church attendance, participation in church programs, and ongoing development projects such as clergy housing and agricultural initiatives including banana and coffee plantations.
In her remarks, Bishop Kagodo’s wife, Mrs. Catherine Kitto Kagodo, encouraged women to take pride in their identity and contributions to society, remain faithful, hardworking, and knowledgeable, and teach children strong moral values to guide their future.
Nazigo Parish comprises seven churches—Kiremeezi, Nakakonge, Gayaza, Nsiima, Kyampisi, Kirindi, and St. Balunabba—along with Senda Chapel, all serving the growing Christian community in the area.
