The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has commended spouses who have successfully invested Presidential Support Fund (PSF) loans, while warning against misuse and delayed repayments.

The Unit Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Committee last week conducted a five-day inspection across all Special Forces Command (SFC) units to assess how spouses are utilising the PSF loans aimed at improving household incomes.

The inspection, led by Col. Night Ikiriza, Head of Administration at SFC and the UPDF’s newly elected Member of Parliament, praised spouses who expanded businesses in piggery, cattle and goat rearing, poultry farming, retail shops, groceries, boutiques, mobile money services, and boda boda operations.

The PSF programme, initiated by President Yoweri Museveni, seeks to empower UPDF spouses economically and enhance family welfare.

Col. Ikiriza urged unit leaders to supervise the programme actively and called on spouses to repay loans promptly to sustain trust and allow others to benefit.

The committee also expressed concern over spouses who remain economically inactive, relying entirely on their husbands, and noted low participation among officers’ spouses. It recommended wider engagement and pledged additional funds to disciplined groups that invest wisely and meet repayment schedules.
