The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, has officially launched a 40-day period of prayer and fasting, calling on Anglicans across the country to unite in seeking spiritual renewal for Uganda.
Speaking to believers at Namirembe, Archbishop Kaziimba said the initiative comes at a critical time when the country is grappling with tribalism, political divisions and what he described as growing immorality.
“This is the time when Uganda is facing tribalism, political divide and immorality. The Church of Uganda has to be a united vessel of revival,” he said.
He emphasized that the Church carries a responsibility to stand in unity and intercede for the nation, noting that collective prayer is essential in strengthening Uganda’s spiritual foundation.
Kaziimba said the 40 days of prayer and fasting are intended to deepen the country’s spiritual dependence on God and to rally believers toward moral and social transformation.
The prayer activities will be held at St. John Church Makerere Prayer Mountain, where Christians are expected to gather for intercession throughout the Lenten season.
Church leaders say the initiative is part of broader efforts to encourage reconciliation, moral uprightness and national unity through faith-based engagement.
