Police in Wakiso District have arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with the malicious damage of a police patrol vehicle during crowd control operations linked to the campaign activities of National Unity Platform presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.

The suspect, identified as Kabira Deo, was arrested by officers attached to Bulenga Police Station following an incident that occurred on January 10, 2026, at Lufula village in Nakabugo Parish.

According to police, the damage occurred as Kyagulanyi was travelling to a campaign venue in Ssentema, where security personnel had been deployed to manage crowds along the route.

Preliminary police findings indicate that the suspect allegedly hurled stones at a police motor vehicle, registration number UP 9770, smashing its windscreen and causing significant damage.

Officers at the scene intervened to contain the situation and prevent further escalation, police said.

Although the incident briefly disrupted operations, order was restored and traffic along the route resumed.

The damaged vehicle was later inspected as part of ongoing investigations.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the arrest and said inquiries were underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and whether other individuals were involved.

“Police at Bulenga Police Station arrested Kabira Deo in connection with the malicious damage of a police motor vehicle during crowd control operations, and investigations into the matter are ongoing,” Owoyesigyire said.

The suspect is currently being held in police custody as investigations continue.

Police have warned members of the public against engaging in acts of violence or vandalism during political activities, stressing that such actions undermine public safety and the rule of law.
