The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, on Tuesday held talks with the German Ambassador to Uganda Matthias Schauer, aimed at reaffirming the longstanding bilateral relations between Kampala and Berlin.
The meeting, held at the Special Forces Command (SFC) headquarters, focused on a range of issues of mutual interest, with both sides underscoring the importance of strengthening cooperation between Uganda and Germany.
Officials described the engagement as forward-looking, reflecting a shared commitment to deepening collaboration across various sectors.
According to officials familiar with the discussions, Gen Muhoozi and Ambassador Schauer reviewed the historical foundations of Uganda–Germany relations, which for decades have been anchored in diplomacy, development cooperation and mutual respect.
They agreed on the need to build on this legacy while exploring new areas of partnership in line with evolving regional and global dynamics.
The meeting comes shortly after Amb Schauer’s recent engagement with President Museveni, highlighting the high-level attention both countries continue to attach to their bilateral relationship.
Ambassador Schauer commended Uganda for its role in promoting regional peace and stability and reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to maintaining strong and constructive relations with Kampala.
He noted that there remains significant potential for expanded cooperation in areas of shared interest.
Both Gen Muhoozi and the German envoy emphasized the importance of dialogue, agreeing that any emerging differences should be addressed through continued diplomatic engagement and mutual understanding.
