NUP’s Andrew Muwanguzi Pledges Education, Social Welfare Reforms in Bugabula South

National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate for Bugabula South, Andrew Muwanguzi, has criticized self-serving leadership and vowed to prioritize quality education and social welfare if elected to represent the constituency in 2026.

Speaking during the Bugabula South Parliamentary Debate hosted by NBS Television on Sunday, Muwanguzi faulted current political leaders for prioritizing personal gain over public service, saying this has fueled persistent poverty and underdevelopment in the constituency.

“The leaders we have elected to Parliament enrich themselves instead of serving the people. Bugabula South deserves leaders who put the needs of citizens first, not their own interests,” he said.

Muwanguzi emphasized that his leadership agenda is anchored in the NUP manifesto, which prioritizes accountability, social justice, and improved public services. He highlighted education as a central pillar of his campaign, describing it as essential for long-term national development.

“Guided by the NUP manifesto, we will ensure that children receive better-quality free education. We shall also work to see that school meals are provided, because a hungry child cannot learn effectively,” he said.

He further noted that many families in Bugabula South struggle to keep children in school due to hidden costs and poor learning conditions, calling for increased government investment in public education, teacher support, and learner welfare.

Muwanguzi urged voters to embrace change and elect leaders committed to integrity, service delivery, and inclusive development.

He will face off with Proscovia Salaamu Musumba of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), Matayo Bazaanya of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Ronald Kirimani Kabanda of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), as well as independent candidates Sanon Moses Dhizaala, Patricia Katagwa, and Robert Gwaivu.

All are seeking to succeed outgoing legislator Henry Maurice Kibalya, who has represented the constituency since 2021 under the ruling NRM ticket.
