The Acholi Paramount Chief, Rwot David Onen Acana II, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Amollo Odinga, describing him as a towering figure whose legacy transcended borders and generations.
In his condolence message issued on behalf of Ker Kwaro Acholi, Rwot Acana extended heartfelt sympathies to the Odinga family, the Luo community, and the people of Kenya.
He referred to Raila as Lawii Tim—“someone above himself”—and hailed him as a champion of democracy and justice in Africa.
“To the people of Kenya and the Piny Luo community worldwide, it is with profound shock and deepest sadness that we received the news of the demise of Rt. Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga – Jakom, Lawii Tiim, Dwon Piny Luo,” Rwot Acana said.
“Ker Kwaro Acholi and the Luo community in Uganda sincerely send our condolences to the bereaved Jaramogi family and the Luo community at large.
"We are with you during this difficult moment based on the Pan-African spirit and our shared ancestry.”
He praised Odinga as “a democrat and a symbol of democracy” who dedicated his life to freedom, justice, and constitutionalism, noting his instrumental role in steering Kenya toward the 2010 Constitution.
“Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga was a true patriot of the 21st century who believed in humanity, equality, justice, and fairness through reconciliation and harmonious civic relations,” Acana stated.
The paramount chief further described Raila as “a cultural gentleman who was proud of his roots and heritage—a booming voice of the Luo community who valued and cherished his ancestry.”
Rwot Acana concluded by saying that Odinga’s life and legacy would continue to inspire Piny Luo generations to uphold honesty, compassion, fairness, and patriotism in service to humanity.
